Draft: Personal Statement
My name is Nadira Permat Imaniar, a 23-year-old student in Binus University majoring in English Literature. I have always been interested in journalism. Growing up i dream of being either a fashion stylist even an editor in chief in a prestigious fashion magazine. I love to write things down whenever i am feeling down, happy or even just feeling inspired. I used to run a beauty blog where i would write reviews and tutorials. Writing has always been my passion and i aspire to be good at it as well.
My interest always changes. However it is never far from journalism and beauty. I have worked for L'Oreal for six months as their business development intern for NYX Cosmetics Indonesia. In the retail industry i have learned a lot. From having real jobs to actually taking responsibilities for the sake of the company involved. I have experienced making a beauty event, arranging meet and greets, product choosing, to subtly designing packaging for be sent out to bloggers and vloggers. Half a year after L'Oreal, i had the opportunity to be working for Fave Indonesia (previously Groupon Indonesia) for four months. During the course of those months i learned how a startup e-commerce works. Groupon is a daily deals company which offer vouchers for merchants around the globe.
Therefore i would like to apply for the exchange program available in NYU Journalism Department. Aside from wanting to explore more about journalism, i would also like to experience to be independent and living in other country where i get to learn something new everyday. I feel like it would beneficial for my future to be experiencing a student exchange.
If i was lucky enough to be accepted- after the program i would like to continue my study in Binus until i graduate. I plan to be working in a magazine or retail industry right after graduation. I would like to branch out more than just journalism, from retail to e-commerce.
